    Step Stool Plans

I will be spending tomorrow and evenings this week finishing up a couple of projects. Next weekend I am building a cradle for the new grandson due to be brought into this world on July 26th.

I want to make something for the soon-to-be older brother (3 yr old) so he won't think Grandpa loves the new baby more.

I know I have seen plans for a bathroom step stool that looks like a chair. The back pivots down to become a step. An internet search turned up nothing. Anybody have, or know of a location, for these plans?

One of the recent mags just had a good looking one that does something like that. I'll go look through my stacks.

It was right on top. The August 2010 issue of Popular Woodworking has a simple stepstool/chair designed for a child.
There's a small photo on their website. http://www.popularwoodworking.com/aug10
    There's a free sketchup plan online: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehou...7f&prevstart=0

OK, the whole article is online as well: http://www.popularwoodworking.com/ar...at_Step_Stool/

There's a really nice Roubo bench by Chris Schwarz in there too.

Daryl, that is way to big and complicated for what I wanted.

Erik, that is the one I was looking for! I don't have Sketchup, but I printed the article.

        Thanks, guys!

I have a 2 1/2 yr. old son and 4 year old twin daughters. I have similar step stools in my home near the bathroom sinks, and while I think the PW plan looks great - IMO the back that folds down into a lower step is unnecessary (but I could be entirely wrong, depending upon the needs of the child and the area the step is intended to be used).

In my case, when the step stool is placed in front of the bathroom sink, it gets in the way of the door. We've trained ourselves to slide them out of the way when the kids aren't using it. The fold-down back causes the footprint of the stool to increase by nearly double when it's down - just something to consider if you might have a similar issue. I'm not sure of the height of our step stools, but none of our kids have any issues getting on or reaching what they need. I'll measure and post later.

(I'd hate to see you work harder than necessary to build something that may be more useful if it were simplified a bit.)

          Good luck!

Follow up post with the height of the step stools. One is 6" and two are 8".
