    Nascar Fantasy league

I know , I know, tried this last yr and no one from here joined up, but its a new season and I,m only putting this up on a few select sites, So here it goes, go to ESPN.Com and sign up for the stock car challenge, when prompted to join a public or private league,Go private and look for or type in SMCRacing league and type in the password woody, Read how to play, pick your drivers and after the end of the 36 weeks the winner will get a new Delta 14 inch bandsaw blade shipped to there house, now if others here want to pony up some more prizes thats fine, I,m provididng the bandsaw blade and shipping at my expense, but you gotta beat me at a game I,m familiar with and have won 3 yrs in a row, but hey its only a game, I,m gonna try to see if I can get some more prizes and that 1st place prize might go down to 2nd or 3rd, but no lower but we will have to wait and see, Good luck and hope to see some of you there, Tommyt

Maybe there aren't a lot of Nascar people on this site but I'll bump this message to the top for you.

I plan to become a Nascar fan one of these days but none of my teeth have fallen out yet, and while I did end up marrying someone with the same last name we weren't actually related let alone cousins, so I don't think I'm allowed in the club.

              /runs and hides

All in jest folks, so this doesn't break the no religion rule

I'd love to take the challenge, Tommy, but I know zippo about Nascar. Never seen a race and know none of the drivers. In a later msg you stated that we in the South don't eat muskrats, etc.; you should've explained that we do occasionally eat frogs, turtles, gators, and sometimes have a drink of something that drips out of a copper pipe hooked to a distillation apparatus.

Least we forget the occasional Rattlesnake steak or Armadillo porkchop, It doesn,t cost anything to play Phrog, its just a game, like any other fantasy sports gig, read the rules and watch the races if you want, Who knows maybe you will win the bandsaw blade,Tommyt

I'm in. Although I'm a huge Nascar fan this will be the first time (along with another league I joined) playing. Most of my drivers will come from JGR.

Glad your on board Dwayne, Just pay attention to practice and qualifying and you,ll usually do O,K,, But Daytona and Talledega have the possibility of the dreaded big one that usually collects a lot of good drivers and therefore points as well, So good luck I think it,ll be fun, Anymore takers?

Good luck with your seasonTommy.. I got hooked on NASCAR in the mid 50's. I went to the first race held at Atlanta International Speedway in I believe 1963 or 1964? Many of todays fans would not recognize many names in that race but probably a few as Junior Johnson.. Ned Jarrett.. Richard Petty who I believe was a rookie or second year driver.. maybe Cale Yarborough?

The Tiny Lunds.. Fred Lorenzons.. Fireball Roberts.. David Pearsons.. or how about Wendell Scott who was the first African American to run the circuit for any lenght of time with his career spanning 19 years. The actual first African American to run a race was Charlie Scott (no relation to Wendell) in 1956 at the Daytona Road Course where he placed 19th and won a whopping $75. That was his first and last race.

I don't do fantasy as I simply don't have the time to spend evaluating. I do bet some NASCAR but use Sportsbook lines that match one driver to another using a money-line for the favorite of a match-up and the under-dog. You don't pick race winners but which driver will finish ahead of another in that days race. The sports-books chose match-ups that are extremely competive then derive at a favorite for that match-up and a "dog".

For instance you might have Jimmy Johnson this Sunday vs Kasey Kahne with Johnson going off at -140 and Kahne at +110. That means if you want Johnson over Kahne you will lay $14 to win $10. If you Kahne to beat Johnson you will lay $10 to win $11.

You are correct IMO at looking at practice times for all practices but.. there are other factors you consider as experienced crews which relates to pit stop times.. driver experience and previous track records on a given track.. set-up which will relate to practice times but can change with variance in weather and temperatures on game day... aero-dynamics of a particul brand car at a given track (long-- mid-- short).. knowledge of how a particular driver takes care of brakes on certain tracks and gas on others.. and of course DNF's.. flat tires.. hot dog wrappers on grill openings... missed lug nut on tire change.. speeding on pit lane.. etc. etc.. etc.. which you can't factor as they just well... happen! ha.. ha...

I could go on and on and on but... NASCAR has become extremely complicated and definitely commercial. Not like the days when I was growing up and the drivers in a race were possibly hauling moon-shine during the week and there on Saturday to have a little fun with their car. I remember Lakewood Speedway (dirt track) in Atlanta and the other smaller dirt tracks local. I used to rub a few fenders at the dirt track in Cumming, Ga. and the Peach Bowl in Atlanta down near the Ga. Tech campus.

Times have changed and my humble NASCAR has gone a bit high tech as most things have..

Wow, Thats cool Sarge, I too have a racing background, but sports cars and motorcycles not stock cars or dirt track. Raced for a guy named Charlie Keene in Tampa ,Fla and drove a 71 Corvette in A-Production class in the SCCA for a yr or two and was racing dirt bikes then as well as a privateer on a CZ. Anyways sorry to hear you won,t join. While you and I know there are a lot of variables to be considered in racing ,this league is just for fun but I am putting up a small prize for 1st place and may have some other prizes as well as I am speaking with a few associates about a few items, anyways heres the link again if anyone wants to join, It,ll be fun.
