For my 1,000 post I though that I should make it something intense and thought provoking. Something to chew on digest slowly. So, I think that apple pie should have a slightly tart edge it. This awakens many more taste receptors in the mouth. And, when served with ice-cream or a slice of sharp cheese (seems to be a regional thing) it provides a varitable cornucopia of flavors and textures. OK, that's it. May it be a guide for your life. (Yea, I know. What do say to such a deep thought!?)
My 1,000th post. A deep thought.

Intentionally awakening more taste receptors in the mouth, can be risky depending on the caliber of cook one's wife is!
Congrats on your milestone!Happiness is sort of like wetting your pants....everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.Comment

Well, that post made me think about it quite a bit. Instead of a slightly tart apple pie, how 'bout strawberry/rhubarb? Have it warm with a dip of vanilla ice cream (no cheese).

Nu-uh. Apple pie should be sweet and served warm. The only contrast you need is the warm pie and cold ice cream. Why would you serve pie with cheese?David

You guys are sick and I love ya for it. Yea, the cheese is a regional thing -I don't get it either but the warm pie and cold ice-cream adds just one more level of variety. Thanks for the certificate, c.man. Is it redeemable at Woodcraft?Blessings,

I have had the apple pie with cheese and Alamode. With a good cheddar it is great. With some ice cream even better especially with a nice dessert wine. Now I must go into the deep thought mode and get ready for next Thursday.

Personally, I take my apple pie in a bowl with milk and a little sugar sprinkled on top. Probably NOT a regional thing, unless my house is a region
But if you want to try something really good, have that warm apple pie with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream.. it is a delight for sure.
Congrats on the 1000th post!!

I can see why cheddar cheese with something sweet is good, Mom makes a great pineapple casserole with well pineapple of course, cheddar cheese, and ritz crackers. Ya know, maybe eating that with a small dollop of ice cream would be very, very good ( oh yeah, and make sure to have the pigmy sitting in the corner with a hypo of insulin loaded in his blow gun for when the sugar high hits, yee-haw)It's Like I've always said, it's amazing what an agnostic can't do if he dosent know whether he believes in anything or not

My mouth just starts watering at the mention of strawberry-rhubarb pie. I can just taste it as I write this.
Hmmm... just noticed - only 4 away from 1000 posts. Maybe I'll reward myself and go buy a strawberry-rhubarb pie.Joe

Warm, slightly tart apple pie with French vanilla ice cream. Not only do you get the warm/cold contrast, you get the tart/sweet thing going too.
Apple pie and cherry w/ice cream are my personal favorites. Cheese is definitely a regional thing. I've tried it, but evidently I don't have Wisconsin in my genetic makeup...
