    HB To Me/Subwoofer

My wife told me to buy what I want and my dad gave me some money
and I've been wanting one of these for a while and I noted they had a B-stock unit (return/recon) for more than 20% off, so I pulled the trigger and ordered one.

    http://www.svsound.com/pix/f_ISDv_curve.jpg

    http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-isdv.cfm#base

Not as big as the super unit shown here lately but it should be impressive if you look at the respone curves (it's tunable so I can trade off power for more bass freq.) shown above plus the built in 325W amp.

Anyone else like some LFE with their DVDs/HT?

Congratulations. As per Tim Taylor, "Arg-Arg!" More bass is more better! So, what DVD movie are you going to demo the bass? Maybe the rumble from the footsteps in Jurrasic Park or the cannon shots in the Patriot?

Quote "Anyone else like some LFE with their DVDs/HT?" For a minute there I thought I was going to have to ask Lucy to splain it to me but I fingered it out. Yes, I do! I even have a 5.1 SS sub on my computer.

If they don't know what LFE are then they won't miss it.

          Here's the SVS recommended list:
          http://www.svsound.com/questions-faqs.cfm#moviedemos

As for what DVDs I will personally check out, I have some on that list -
Also Titanic, Last Samurai, LOTR 1, 2, and 3 a demo disk or two (with some of the THX promo spots and the Star Wars pod races), The thing is, if you haven't heard LFE before, it may be there but you missed it!

Actually it was on the list - for 24 hours then I hid it again. Privacy thing, you know.

And besides BD, my anniversary Monday and Father's Day today. What better excuse to spend money.

Very cool, I am using a pair of sunfire true subwoofers ( listed at 2700 watts each). Really cool how they shake the house!

I bought a Reconditioned Aiwa (aka Sony) Subwolfer about 10 years ago. It still sounds good.

                            Loring,

Congrats! My sub is also 12 inch and hooked to a 100 watt amp. I bought the driver from parts express and used their recommended enclosure size and port size. I have a sound pressure meter but have not attempted to measure the frequency response. We like it so why bother? It is supposed to be around 20 hz for the 3 db down point. Mine is mounted between the floor joists and shoots out a fake heat vent. When it is working, you can feel the air move out of the vent.

My recommendation for a subwoofer testing movie is Armageddon - the one with Bruce Willis. Every time the meteor is shown, there is some good low bass. With average subs, it is too low and you hear nothing. With a good sub, you hear (or feel) what you are supposed to.

                            Have fun.

                            Jim

                              Orions here, mmm....bass.....

The computer has the high end reference monitors, flat freq response for mixing CDs and DVDs. They provide lovely low end as well, but the orions are just over the top.

                              Congratz! Enjoy.
